Elbury Band

Elbury

Elbury is a five-piece original alternative-folk act from Brisbane, with a repertoire that verges on rock with a singer-songwriter tinge.

Musicianship is a big focus for the band, weaving together layers of guitar and piano to create lush sonic textures. All five members sing at times, so there is lots of vocal harmony and variation throughout the live show to engage the audience!

Lead songwriter and front man Edward Buckridge and keyboardist and vocalist Brooke Austen are both members of I Heart Songwriting Club. Buckridge plunders diverse literary sources for inspiration and find unique perspectives on the quirks, puzzles and tragedies of life and the human experience.

Elbury’s new record ‘A Life in Stages’ features nine of the tracks that were written in The Club!

Buckridge had this to say about the record:

“There are lots of one-word titles! I feel like I should have given my songs different names but, in some ways, I like it this way because it’s a reminder of the writing process. The weekly “response to stimulus” activity and the process of receiving and responding to feedback.

Participation in the Club meant that I was producing lots of material for consideration, and getting a chance to test things with a sample audience on a regular basis. Sometimes the feedback can be surprising – more positive than you expected – and this can motivate you to take a second look at something.”

“Passport”, the lead single off the album, was born out of 4 lines submitted to the Club. Edward says “being accountable to the group motivated me to put something in (however small!), and the feedback I received that week really pushed me to do the work to finish it.”

Edward and Brooke have both been active members of I Heart Songwriting Club since 2017 and met through the Club’s activities in Brisbane. Both solo artists in their own right, they have performed at multiple Club showcases, and also have been featured in our ABC Radio Live Songwriting Sessions – a fast-paced, live and collaborative songwriting session featuring members of the Club.

We invite you to connect with Elbury, enjoy their songs, and continue to be inspired as this magnificent group of artists continue to discover new musical territory as they progress.
