Exclusive Single Premiere:
Means of Release The Gallery (2018)
June 22 2018
Means of Release is the stage name for Brisbane based singer-songwriter Peter Turk. His debut single The Gallery was written as part of I Heart Songwriting Club working with the theme "painting".
The Gallery kicks off with an intro interweaving acoustic guitar, mandolin, piano and strings to establish the overall feel that sets up the song and leads naturally into the opening verse which is followed by a series of well-shaped and musically interesting sections.
Lyrically the song explores the power of small, sustained efforts toward personal transformation that share and celebrate progress along the way as a simile to the way an artist might create a painting.
Use of harmony with call and response backing vocals and central guitar solo drive the song into a full rhythm section that allows the song to build in intensity to its finale.
Turk cites Sufjan Stevens, Sam Beam, John Frusciante, Conor Oberst, and Bill Callahan among the influences that inspire Means of Release and certain elements of those styles are recognisable as inspirations for The Gallery, vocally and instrumentally, whilst delivering a unique sound.
Overall this is a compelling and very listenable piece of songwriting with a catchy melody and an encouraging message.
The Gallery will be available online from June 22nd from Bandcamp.
