Songs from the Trenches - ANZAC Concert

2-5pm; St. John's Anglican Church, Bulimba, QLD
All Ages; Tickets $15-35.
Only few of us experience life in the trenches, in the front line, the most dangerous place, where there is only the deep underground and “no man’s land” protecting you from your enemy. Anzac Day 2017, I Heart Songwriting Club and Toc H joined forces to honour the lives of our service people with a fundraising concert, “Songs from the Trenches”.

Featuring award-winning singer-songwriter Francesca de Valence, international singer-songwriter Sam Buckingham, and classical soprano Xenia Puskarz Thomas, along with the Sculthorpe String Quartet from St. Margaret’s Anglican Girls School,  it was an afternoon of songs that shared the spirit of Anzacs - courage, mateship, sacrifice, and community.

Toc H is a volunteer movement that was founded in World War I and continues today by building friendships and offering service throughout the community with work that is designed to break down the barriers that divide people from one another. This concert is a fundraiser for the Toc H Queensland arm.

I Heart Songwriting Club
is proud to have presented this concert. We thank all the wonderful communities who were involved in this event: Toc H, St. John's Parish, St. Margaret's Anglican Girls School and I Heart Songwriting Club.

Thank you for "Songs from the Trenches". Toc H is fortunate to have such talented supporters - Nick, longterm TocH supporter and volunteer

What a wonderful variety of beautiful music and talent. Looking forward to next year - Ray Geise, Chairman of TocH Northern Region

Please repeat this event next year. We will definitely be supporting it and the work of I Heart Songwriting Club  - Di Farmer MP, Member for Bulimba

A sensitively curated concert that honours so many different communities. Thank you for your work  - Anon.

Songs of Our Land and Home - An Australia Day Live Concert

7-9.30pm, The Henderson Art Gallery (South Brisbane, QLD)
All tickets $15-20, All Ages

No doubt there is far more to celebrating our country than the traditional day off in January, a bash in the backyard, a few beers and a lamb chop. Many of us also experience a deep cultural and spiritual connection, although its significance is often not so easily expressed.

Members from I Heart Songwriting Club wrote songs that speak of what the term, "our land and our home" means to them, and these songs were presented in a sold-out concert at The Henderson Art Gallery, South Brisbane on January 27. This exhibition space embraces the works of local artists, including First Nations artist Robert Henderson. Joining them was esteemed music critic and author, Noel Mengel, who shared some material from his upcoming book.

At this special Australia Day live event brand new original songs were premiered from I Heart Songwriting Club members Francesca de Valence (founder and director of the club), Edward Buckridge, Brooke Austen, as well as guest performers from within the club.

People gathering sharing narrative, expressing, sharing, supportive, fostering community. Peeling back division and revealing oneness...Nice - Anon.

Water. Waves. Impact. Cleansing. The theme for the final I Heart Songwriting Club house concerts for 2016 was The Ripple Effect, which is symbolic of the real-life ripple effect that this unique global online songwriting club is creating. After operating as a private ‘pilot’ club for 2 years, the doors were opened to public membership in July 2016. A few months later there are 100 members from all over the world – each writing songs every single week.

We had the immense pleasure of hosting our first I Heart Songwriting Club house concerts series taking in not only our home town of Brisbane, but for the first time Hobart and Sydney, allowing us to feature even more I Heart Songwriting Club members from around Australia. I Heart Songwriting Club founder Francesca de Valence presented concerts with I Heart Songwriting Club members Helen Perris, Mariamma Mitchell, Colleen O’Connell, Freya Lindblom and Louise Charman-James in Sydney, and Toby Strays, Lasca Dry and Cassie O'Keefe in Hobart. The Brisbane concert was our 8th event in Brisbane and featured Johnny Pav, Heather Bertoli, The Viola Cloning Project, Laura Fanshawe, Mick Hartcher, award-winning writer Kirsten Fogg and a breath-taking photographic exhibition from Kellie North

We are so proud of our club - nurturing songwriting and community around the world. It was so amazing to see it all unfold in each city. Til 2017. Thank you for your support.
